Here in Utah we have Pioneer Day - a holiday for some here. My 19 mile run today seemed like pioneering from one faint and fading trial to another. Nothing more frustrating than a good trail starting with potential then ending on a downhill that leaves you itchy-leg running through the bushes to get back to a real trail. I'll keep those trails for future projects - there is potential, maybe. I always get lost in the meadow portion of faint trails, where grass seems to take over the trail faster than other places. The other issue is that many of these trails (even the main trails) have lots of downed trees, keeping some users off them.
The run consisted of mostly the Ridge Trail starting from Salamander Flats to Mill Canyon Peak (Rock Springs) then down (kinda) Old Trench Road trail (TR181) and up the newly improved, meandering Mill Canyon Trail (TR040). The run was similar to the Mill Canyon Circumnavigation run I did last year. A perfect running morning before work despite the fading trails and large motohead presence after 9am.
This trail combination put about 6,400 vertical feet on my running log.
I tested my Miox chlorinator instead of carrying lots of water - it worked except you need to find clean water that doesn't need filtering, which was a challenge. Rock Springs water and the normally quiet streams I used had some floaties, so I put in extra doses. I'm feeling OK so far. I'll let you know.
Also tested the CEP calf compression sleeves (they also second as arm sleeves if it gets cold). I almost felt "a 5% increase in performance." I put them on after mile 10. They felt good and seemed to allow my calves to relax on the downhill and somehow felt like they increased my calf springiness. Maybe it's all in my mind, but I think it's worth some more testing. I have been using them for a while for post workout time, which they do help noticeably for decreasing soreness/tightness. I usually wear them to work or to sleep, post workout.
